It looks like Ms. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu wanted to start 2017 with a J-Pop infection. The Kawaii princess has released her first single in nearly 9 months after “Sai & Co”, and the new adorable number is titled “Harajuku Iyahoi”. And yes… Yasutaka Nakata produces the track (uhhhh, no surprise there). Kyary Pamyu Pamyu released the track on New Years Day to convey her comeback after her greatest hits album back in May last year, and the track is as kawaii and adorable as she is… no seriously, it’s bloody adorable. It’s a midtempo electro number that showcases your typical juvenile like J-Pop riffs and infectious hooks. Gosh, the gurl sure knows how to serve a single.
To be honest, I actually enjoy this track; it’s not too over-the-top as “Sai & Co”, which was one of my favorite Japanese tracks of the year, but it shows a more calmer and hopefully more mainstream sound for the Kawaii Princess. I really do hope there is a more club-oriented vibe—along with the quintessential Kyary realness of course—on her next album as her last effort, Pika Pika Fantajin, was a little too short of fresh ideas.
The single is out on iTunes now, but WAIT! There’s more! Kyary is in fact collaborating with British songstress Charli XCX on Pamyu’s single “Crazy Crazy”, which will serve as the singer’s first English track! Like, holy god I can’t wait for this! The preview is pretty convincing, so hopefully her Kawaii-juices spread further on these songs cause, if they do, it’s gon’ be fire! (Oh yeah, and the single is produced by Yasutaka Nakata too.)
